Melanie released the music video for her song " Carousel" on October 15, 2014, and postponed her release date for her album, and stated that she hoped to have it out in the spring of 2015. In May 2014, Melanie put out her debut EP, Dollhouse, and announced that summer that she hoped to have her album out around October. In January 2014, she confirmed the name of the album. The EP was completed around 2013 and was ready to be released, but she later scrapped it after recording her song " Dollhouse" which led her to change her sound and start working on a new album. Melanie began recording for an unreleased EP shortly after being eliminated from The Voice.
